(OzNZ)VeganMoFo: Produce

August 31, 2009 by Pasta Recipes · Leave a Comment

Given that today is the first official day of spring, I thought I would kick off the unofficial Month of Food with some local produce. Last spring, Andy and I tried to take advantage of Townsville's sunny climate by growing things. We planted capsicums, tomatoes, and an eggplant, in addition to our normal herbs and pineapple. Everything grew very well, and within a few weeks we had flowers. But, it got too hot, or too humid, or something. The flowers bloomed and then fell off without sett

Italian So Fat, Low Fat, No Fat
I have just started making recipes from this cookbook and enjoy the good

tastes and seasonings, especially the Eggplant Lasagne. I did have a problem with one

recipe, Chocolate Budino, and wonder if there is a mistake and if the author, Beddy

Rohde, or anyone else has a solution. The cake/pudding part of it turned out fine, but the

topping never melted in the saucepan, and was very dry on top. It seemed to need more

liquid than the 2 Tbsp. Amaretto. Other recipes I’ve tried have turned out great!

Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Grilled Chicken Marinara

August 31, 2009 by Pasta Recipes · Leave a Comment

When I bought the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Grilled Chicken Marinara , I wasn't expecting much with the ordinary description and picture on the box, chicken breast, pasta broccoli florets in marinara sauce. When I ate it, though, I was really surprised by how good it was. The packaging allows the meal to be steam cooked in a compartment that sits on top of the larger bowl of sauce. The penne pasta, bite-sized chicken, and broccoli came out with a nice texture. The Parmesan chees

Chanterelles and the Sexiest Soup Ever

August 31, 2009 by Pasta Recipes · Leave a Comment

Some people spend their money on gadgets, rare wines, drugs or Craftsman tools. I spend mine on mushrooms. And after eating an orgasmic mushroom soup I made with some chanterelles last weekend, I feel entirely justified in my choice. Who needs a cordless drill or a ‘57 Dom Perignon when you have this soup? I’ve recently acquired a mushroom “dealer,” Joseph Daugherty of Oregon, who sells me wild mushrooms at prices well below what I would spend at the Davis Farmer’s market. My first shipment

M.I.S.S. Healthy Bites: You Say Tomato….

August 31, 2009 by Pasta Recipes · Leave a Comment

Any way you say it, the tomato is great for your body! Life is good when you have a tomato plant. Imagine, the warmth of the summer days ripening juicy, sweet tomatoes right in your own backyard. If you’re not lucky enough to have straight-from-the-vine tomatoes to top your taco, no worries because in this day and age, tomatoes are available year-round. But there is no better time to indulge in tomatoes than now, when they are at their peak, giving flavor and flesh that can’t ever compet

August 31st, 2009Blog WriterLeave a commentGo to comments Here is a local Greek/Cretan dish which, sadly, you do not often find in many tavernas in Paleochora. I really don’t know why as its very simple to cook and really quite delicious. As with all Greek dishes, everybody has their own recipe passed down from one generation to the next so none of our recipes shared here could be called definitive. Also, tradition has to be made so feel free to change/add/evolve the recipe and post your resul
