One of Best, Easy-To-Use Cookbooks I Own
I have to say, I was suspicious of the title for this cook book, because, let’s

face it, usually “brand names” are out trying to accomplish one thing - selling their own

name!

However, this book has surpassed all of my expectations. Not only are the full-page

pictures on every page gorgeous, mouth-watering, and helpful, but EVERY SINGLE recipe

I’ve tried have been EXCELLENT.

The best thing is that this book is that, in its efforts to use “brand name” products,

the recipes are simple and easy-to-understand, with shortcuts like using canned diced

tomatoes or pre-made Italian dressing. Usually I have everything the recipe calls for right

in my cupboard, and substitutions are easy to make. Because of this book, I’ve become

more creative, trying out things I never would have dared to experiment with before.

Best cookbook I’ve ever owned!

Recipes From Paradise, Fred Plotkin
I bought this book and was very disappointed by the recipes. It is beautifully

presented but the recipes were, in my opinion, probably not tested by the author for

either flavor or correct proportion of ingredients.
For example, the Pansoti (little

Ligurian raviolis) and walnut sauce recipe was a loser from start to finish. The ingredients

for the pasta dough were so far out of whack as to be unusable (and that includes both

the one for the actual recipe and the book’s generic pasta dough recipe). The stuffing for

the pansoti’s (and I followed the recipe as written) was devoid of flavor and the walnut

sauce (and the directions for its application to the pasta) was very poor. It had decent

flavor but came out very thick and paste like, again, the result of poor, inaccurate

ingredient proportions.
Given the price of this book, it is not at all a good

buy.
I’m an experienced cook and because of a trip to Liguria I was excited about

trying this book. Unfortunately, the book is, in my view, all show and possesses little

substance. I would advise against buying it.

In 1985 two young women chefs with enormous, vitality and

imagination published their first cookbook, Cucina Fresca. For many readers it was

more than a cookbook; it was a love affair.

Who needs pictures? It’s the taste that counts!
I bought this cookbook several years ago. While other cookbooks while away

in the cupboard, “Pasta Fresca” lives on my kitchen counter.

The recipes are good and mostly easy. The only challenge is finding some of the

ingredients. (Luckily most of the recipes do not require hard-to-find ingredients.) But the

search for black olive paste is well worth it: “Fusilli lunghi all’ Amalfitana” sends us to

Seventh Heaven regularly. Why, it’s almost as good as a trip to the fairy tale land of Amalfi!

style="float:left; margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; padding: 1m 2em;" >

A marvelous compendium of recipes, cooking instruction, and insights into

the culture and culinary traditions of Tuscany.

Giancarlo and Katie Caldesi, the team

behind two of London’s most popular Tuscan restaurants, decided to relocate to

Tuscany for a few months—to rediscover Giancarlo’s culinary roots and to run a series

of courses in traditional Tuscan cooking. Return to Tuscany is a delightful record of

their sojourn. Each chapter begins with a lesson, echoing the different stages of their

cooking course, guiding you through the basic techniques of making pasta, assembling

an antipasti platter, cooking meat on an open fire, and baking your own focaccia. In 80

regional recipes—from Jam Crostata and Pici with Arrabiata Sauce to Chicken with

Cinnamon and Lemon—Giancarlo and Katie reveal methods passed down through

generations of the Caldesi family. Evocatively illustrated throughout with color photos of

the food and the landscape, Return to Tuscany is an inspiring introduction to the

Not just a cookbook!
I read this book from cover to cover! I recently returned from a trip to

Tuscany, and the information about the Tuscan culture increased my appreciation of

what I had seen and experienced. It is truly a book about a family living in Tuscany–with

recipes. I recommend that others read it before, as well as after, travelling to that

beautiful area of Italy.

A very good cookbook.
This is a very good cookbook, but I think I like the first one better. “Eat This!”

the original, was more practical and is one cookbook I have used more than any other I

own. Dom does have quite a habit of hampering his cookbooks with more than a little

name-dropping. (i.e. You hear of all the stars who have eaten his food, but you rarely find

out what they liked about it.) But the two “Eat This!” books are well worth the money.

A great link with an Italian Mother-in-law & family
My husband is Italian & I am the first non-Italian in the family. I fondly say I am

adopted Italian. I loved the book and have purchased one for each of my three

daughters and daughter-in-law. I spent the afternoon going page by page through the

book with my 90 year old mother-in-law. She enjoyed the book very much saying “I

remember when I made that and she delighted with the Italian phrases and pictures of

the family. My profession is a psychiatric clinical Nurse specialist and this book is very

therapeutic as a strength builder in family culture and relationships as well as a bridge

between generations. [...]

Michael Psilakis’ Pork Sofrito

October 25, 2009 by Pasta Recipes · Leave a Comment

Last week I was given an advance copy of New York Chef Michael Psilakis’ first cookbook, “How to Roast a Lamb”. It turns out my copy wasn’t so advanced. Yesterday, I popped into Toronto’s “World’s Largest Book Store” and there it was! For those not familiar with Michael Psilakis, here’s a recap: Michael is a 1st-generation Greek-American who grew up in Long Island New York and he currently is the Chef and co-owner of Anthos , Kefi , Gus Gabriel , Mia Dona and the newly minted Eo
